REVIEW OUR CASES ONLINE

You can search the North Carolina Industrial Commission’s webpage for cases as a member of the general public.  To find the cases in which we have received a decision or Opinion and Award, follow the directions below.  (For convenience, you might want to print these directions before going to the Commission’s website.)

  1. Go to http://www.comp.state.nc.us/ncic/pages/database.htm.
  2. Click the “NCIC Databases” toggle.  (Note that this page has a “Search Tips” toggle in case you need additional help on how to use the search engine.)
  3. On the “NCIC Databases” page, type “public” as your “username” and leave the “password” blank.  This will take you to the search page.
  4. Enter “Mark Sumwalt” or “Vernon Sumwalt” as your Full Text search terms.  The search will produce most, if not all, of the cases that we have been involved in over the past several years.  (Make sure that the Scope of the search is “Enterprise [All Versions].”  The Commission has set this as the default database for your search.)
  5. You can also search for other cases with other search terms of your own, if you are interested in doing so.

The firm continues to maintain an extremely active trial and appellate practice, recently resulting in numerous published appellate decisions involving significant issues in the area of workers' compensation.

In addition to numerous cases before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, we are also presently litigating several cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
